The preservation of those beautiful edifices whichwere raised by our pious ancestors for the celebrationof Christian Worship, must be a paramount objectof regard with every admirer of our national antiqui-ties ; and we conceive that our pages cannot be de-voted more usefully than by directing the publicmind to those venerable buildings which either timeor the ruthless hand of man has reduced to a stateof ruin. During the present century, indeed, a greatchange has been progressively effected with respectto the estimation in which subjects of this kind areheld, compared with by-gone times.
