THE CASTLE GREW WHILE THE MAIDEN SLEPT 252 The Three Tasks woman touched the gray rocks, and immediatelythey began to move, then to rock together, and pres-ently to stand upright, as if they had been wallsbuilt by giants. Within these walls the castle rose,as if numberless invisible hands were at work layingstone upon stone. The earth trembled as large hallsexpanded and stood near each other in order.
