e went to work for A. Wiegand, the wellknown florist of that time. The Wiegandgreenhouses were then on Kentucky Ave-nue and South Street. After two yearsMr. Wacker had advanced so far in knowl-edge of American ways and had made suchgood use of his earnings that he was ableto rent seven acres of land on CentralAvenue and Twelfth Street. This landwas then well out on the edge of town butis now in the heart of the city. Here heengaged in business as a truck and vege-table grower for the local market. Hisoperations for the first year netted hima considerable revenue, and he then boughtfive acres of ground at Emerichville. Thisground too has been since swept withinthe rapidly growing City of Indianapolis.He owned that property only a few months,when he sold out at a profit of $2,300. Mr.Wacker has made many larger deals sincethen but none of greater importance to hispersonal fortune, since the sale gave himthe capital sufficient to begin his opera-tions as a real estate man and he has con-
