In the latter year he removed toIndianapolis to take up his duties as as-sistant reporter of the Supreme Court, andwas chiefly known to the local professionof the capital city in that capacity until1913. Mr. Esarey is a stanch republican,and during his residence at Cannelton heserved as a member of the School Boardand was a leader in establishing and build-ing the Cannelton Public Library, the firstinstitution of that kind between Evansvilleand New Albany. He is a member of theKnights of Pythias fraternity, the ModernWoodmen of America and other orders.For a number of years he has been a mem-ber of the Methodist Church at Indian-apolis, and for the last two years has taughta large Bible class of young ladies. Dur-ing his practice at Cannelton Mr. Esareyestablished the principle affirmed by deci-sion of the Supreme Court of the right ofa tax payer to compel a public official toreturn money unlawfully obtained.

INDIANA AND INDIANANS 1717 April 8, 1893, at Cannelton, he marriedMiss Emma L. Clark. Sidney L. Aughinbaugh is secretary andtreasurer of the Spencer AughinbaughCompany, an incorporated Arm that hashandled a number of the most importanttransactions in Indianapolis suburban realestate in recent years, and also covers alarge field as dealers and brokers in farmlands. Mr. Aughinbaugh is a real estate expertlargely through self training and experi-ence. He was born in Marion County June29, 1882, a son of Edward L. and Mary(Lewis) Aughinbaugh. His father, a na-tive of Pennsylvania, came west about theclose of the Civil war and located in In-dianapolis. He is now one of the capitalcitys oldest and best known merchants.His first experience here was as a clerk inthe old Browning & Sloan wholesale drughouse. He has now been in business forhimself as retail druggist for fully half acentury, and is owner of one of the bestknown drug stores in the city, at the cornerof Michigan Street and Emme
