Father Eberschweiler traveled with some Ursu-line Sisters from St. Peters Mission and someIndian pupils to St. Pauls Mission and occupied itsfirst mission buildings. The successors of Father Eberschweiler built,in the course of time, large stone buildings for theflourishing mission. Rev. Ambrose Sullivan, pastor of Saint JudeRoman Catholic Church of Havre, is one of thescholarly and efficient priests of his faith, and acitizen of high standing in his community. He wasborn at Newcastle, Pennsylvania, June II, 187S, ason of Timothy and Johanna (Connelly) Sullivan,both natives of Ireland, Timothy having been bornin County Kerry. He died in 1889. when just fiftyyears old, and she in 1881, when thirty-three yearsof age. They were married in Pennsylvania, andhad four children, three sons and one daughter,

HISTORY OF MONTANA 699 namely: Ambrose, who was the eldest born; StephenJ., who is also a priest and in charge of the HolyCross Roman Catholic Church of Townsend, Mon-tana; John B., who is a physician and surgeon ofHavre; and Josephine, who is a resident of Town-send, Montana. Timothy Sullivan came to theUnited States in young manhood, landing at Boston,Massachusetts. A miner and miller, he worked atdiflferent places and in i88o came West to Montanaand located at Butte, sending for his family in1881, and there he lived until his death. He wasa strong democrat. Ambrose Sullivan attended the parochial schoolsin Helena until 1889, when he went to Spokane,Washington, to attend Gonzaga College. In 1892he joined the Jesuit order and after eleven yearsof study and teaching in various houses of theJesuit Order in the Northwest was sent in the year1903 to Montreal, Canada, to study theology. Hewas ordained priest in 1906 and was sent to Pen-dleton, Oregon, as assistant priest of St. MarysChurc
