built in 1717, by the same architect whobuilt St. Martins, but is a less successful effort of his ge-nius. The exterior has a double range of columns, oneover the other, with entablatures, pediments, and balus-trades, and in the intercolunmiations there are orna-mented niches. The interior walls are decorated with dupli-cated ranges of pilasters : the east cntl is semi-circular. St, Clement Danes, Strand, was erected by Sir C. Wrenin 1680, excejU the tower, which was raised to its presentheight of 116 feet by Mr. Gibbs, in 1719. On the northand south sides are tlomed porticoes supported by Ioniccolunms. In the vestry room there is a picture (formerly thealtar-piece), some of the figures of which are said to beportraits of the wife and ciiildrcn of the Pretender.
