In 1918 he was presi-dent of the Century Club of Indianapolis,and is also president of the IndianapolisSchool Board and is deeply interested inall matters affecting education. He is athirty-second degree Scottish Rite Masonand Shriner and in politics is a republican.In 1893 he married Louise Bowen, a daugh-ter of Horatio F. and Ann Amy (Mowry)Bowen, of Joliet, Illinois. They have threechildren, Bertina Louise, Howard Frank-lin and Barbara Louise. Bertina Louiseis now a student in Vassar College. Vincent A. Lapenta, M. D. Profession-ally Doctor Lapenta is one of the able sur-geons of Indianapolis, a skilled specialistin abdominal surgery. Hishome in Naples where he was reared wasin the midst of a colony of English people.He early learned to speak English fluentlyand with the Englishmans accent. Afterleaving the University of Naples he cameto America, and did post-graduate workin Harvard Medical School and in theMedical School of the University of Illi-nois at Chicago, specializing in abdominalsurgery. Doctor Lapenta located at Indianapolisin 1912. That city has since been his home,and his practice is confined to abdominalsurgery. He is a member of the Countyand State Medical societies and the Amer-ican Medical Association, the ClinicalCongress of Surgeons, and all other organ-izations relating to the profession. In 1916Doctor Lapenta was elected a member ofthe American Association for the Advance-ment of Science and in 1918 he was ap-pointed by the Italian governme
