description

Summary

This is an interesting postcard with a photo of aboriginal men ready for church at the Mapoon Mission in far north Qld. The card is dated 1906 and addressed to J. Dunmore Lang..John Dunmore Lang was instrumental in bringing the first German missionaries to Moreton Bay. He was one of the movers and shakers of colonial Australia, slightly controversial, and with an eye for opportunity and a great deal of conviction and energy. He was a Scottish preacher, politician and patriot, who fought a number of social justice battles in Australia..(missionaries.griffith.edu.au/…/lang-john-dunmore-179… ( http://missionaries.griffith.edu.au/…/lang-john-dunmore-179… ) )
