esides FredA., the oldest of their children, there are: Agnes,wife of Glen Lenhart, a janitor in the State Capitoland a resident at 819 Eighth Avenue; Olga, wifeof Axel Larson, a miner at Butte; Arthur, a ma-chinist at Helena; Carl, an electrician; Elmer, a car-penter; and Ernest, an electrician, the three latteral.so living in Helena. Fred A. Johnson was educated in the public schoolsof Helena up to the age of nineteen. His firstregular employment was with the Northern PacificRailway, beginning as call boy and eventually beingpromoted to foreman of the switch engines in theyards. He left railroading in 1910 and became anapprentice carpenter and followed that trade from1910 to 1918. He then took up contracting inde-pendently, and established and is proprietor of theNorthwest Construction Company, whose offices areat 130 Sixth Avenue, East. Mr. Johnson is a member of the Carpenters Unionand is active in the Helena Commercial Club, servingon the committee promoting the building campaign

He married in Helena in August, 1913, MissRuby Longstaflt, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A.Longstaff, the latter now deceased and the formermanager of the Continental Oil Company in Helena.Mrs. Johnson is a graduate of the Helena HighSchool. To their union have been born two chil-dren: Raymond, born May 11, 1914, and Lila, bornAugust 21, 1916. Sherwood S. Cross. One of Montanas ex-men who shared in the splendid record of achieve-ment made by the American Engineers in France,Sherwood S. Cross was recently appointed and isnow giving his entire time to his duties as countysurveyor of the new County of Glacier, with homeat Cut Bank.
