He began hiscareer in the lumber business, and for tenyears was connected with ■ the firm ofBlanchard, Carlisle & Company. For threeyears he was also bookkeeper for the Pa-troleum Hoop Company. It was from thosebusiness duties that he was called whenelected city clerk of Kokomo. Mr. Havensis a loyal member of the republican party,has served eight years as county chairinan,but his citizenship is by no means basedon party loyalty, but makes him a cooper-ating factor in every movement for the gen-eral welfare.
