^ h hu^iic vT/?^-^-^ HISTORY OF MONTANA 865 saw miners running their ditches and digging forgold in the very streets, and he met many wagonspiled high with buffalo hides, that being one of thechief commodities of commerce in that day. Mr. Hodgson was born on the banks of the St.Lawrence River in Canada, the old homestead beingin one of the picturesque regions of Canada. Hisparents were William and Mary (Archie) Hodgson,and he was fourth in a family of ten children. Hereceived his education in the public schools and wasworking as a clerk in a store when in 1873 he mar-ried Miss Euphemia Marcure. She was born in NewBrunswick, a daughter of Regis and Ozeta (Theri-ault) Marcure, of French ancestry. She was educatedin public schools to the age of ten and after thatin a Sisters School in New Brunswick. For twoyears after his marriage Mr. Hodgson continuedclerking for a general merchant.
