at Madison, Wisconsin. Their four sons areWilliam W., Thomas F., Peter J. and John E. John E. Dawson was educated in the public schoolsof Boulder and in the Montana State College atBozcman. From 1896 to 1900 he was employed bytwo leading mercantile firms at Butte, and whilethere laid a substantial basis of business trainingand experience. For six years he was departmentmanager for the Thomas OHanlon Company atChinook, and in the fall of 1907 became interestedin the firm of Lewis Brothers at Gla.sgow, generalmerchants. He was buyer for this firm until Jan-uary I, 1915, at which date he became vice presi-dent of the Rocky Mountain Fire Insurance Com-pany at Great Falls. He had charge of the fieldagencies of the company until February, 1917, whenhe was made general manager. His large acquaint-ance and expert business abilities have done muchto promote the welfare and success of this corpora-tion. While in that oflficehe was instrumental in putting Glasgow into theclass of progressive cities of Montana, the water-works and electric light plant being installed whilehe was mayor. He has always taken an active in-terest in public affairs and during the war was aleader in the Red Cross and Liberty Loan cam-paigns, being on the executive committee of the RedCross in Cascade County. Mr. Dawson is a dem-ocrat, and is affiliated with Butte Lodge No. 240of the Elks. On August 12, igoi, he married Miss Mamie J.Ross, a native of Nova Scotia. Her father, GeorgeRoss, was one of the pioneers of the Milk RiverValley in Montana. Mr. and Mrs. Dawson have oneson. Edward K. Col. Simon H.\uswirth is commandant of theMontana Soldiers Home, an institution of whichthe state is deservedly proud and whose comforts andconveniences are greatly appreciated by the old vet-erans who live there.
