On June 17, 1893, Mr. Skylstead was united inmarriage to Miss .Anna Trove, who was born atBergen, Norway, and five children have been bornto them, namely: Esther, who died in infancy;Ralph F., of whom mention will be made later;Anna, who completed one year in the Universityof California, then entered the University of Mon-tana, a young lady of brilliant talent; Olaf G., whois a student in the Havre High School, and Esther,who is yet in the grade schools. Returning to Mr. Skvlsteads eldest son. NavalLieut. Ralph F. Skylstead, a few words of tributemav he given to a very unusual young man, who iswell known at Havre, where he received his earlyeducation. In 1913 he received his appointment tothe Naval .Academy at .Annapolis, Maryland, whichhe entered in his sixteenth year, on May 6, 1913,from which he was graduated March .?o, 1917, im-mediatelv receiving a commission as ensign. After three months as ensign he waspromoted to junior lieutenant and transferred to thetransport Finland, later became lieutenant-senior,and during the World war was chief gunnery officerand had made nine round trips across the ocean whenthe armistice with the enemy was signed. After thathe was transferred to the cruiser New Orleans andordered to the Asiatic squadron and is now at-tached to the Brookljn, the flagship of the fleet.
