It was situate on asmall hill, over-shaded with wood, and con-sisted of about a dozen huts, constructedwithout art or regularity. They were com-posed of a few poles, inclining to each otherin the shape of a sugar-loaf, which werecovered on the weather side with grass andboughs, and on the other side a space wasleft open, which served at once for a fire-place and a door. They were of the samenature of the huts that had been seen at St.Vincents Bay. A little grass served for bedsrand chairs, and their utensils were a basketfor the hand, a satchel to hang upon theback, and a bladder for water, out of whichthey drank through a hole near the top.This town was inhabited by a tribe of aboutfifty men, women and children.
