Portrait of veterans' friend presented to House Veterans' Committee. Washington, D.C., June 28. Former representative Royal C. Johnson, who left Congress in 1918 to join the army as a buck private, then upon being reelected to Congress, left the service to resume his seat in the House, was today present when a portrait of himself was hung in the House Veterans' Committee. The painting was made for the American Legion which presented to the committee through its national commander Stephen Chadwick. Rep. John E. Rankin, Chairman of the committee accepted it. General Pershing gets first American Legion poppy. The American Legion poppy drive was officially opened in Washington today when General John J. Pershing received a buddy poppy from Mrs. Louise W. Williams, a national president of the American Legion Auxiliary. The poppies are made each year by disabled World War veterans in various hospitals and sold to aide the American Legion in their many charitable enterprises. 3/19/32

Twenty-seven Japanese veterans from tank units stationed on the neighboring island of Saipan during World War II (WWII) came to pay respects to fallen comrades during a 60th Anniversary reunion. These veterans had family and friends stationed on Guam, and they didn't learn of their fates for years following the war. They came today with their families to place flowers, burn incense, light candles and give prayers at Tarague Beach a sight of major conflict during the war. The Japanese tank units at Tarague were the last enemy tanks on Guam and with their destruction by the United States Marine Corp (USMC) all organized resistance on Guam had ended

During the ceremony the remains of what is believed to be five U.S. soldiers that served in the Korean war were returned to the South. During the ceremony the reamains are passed across the MDL from North Korean soldiers to a group of United Nations Command Honor Guard soldiers. As the remains are passed across the MDL they are saluted by a delegation of representing members of the U.S. Veterans of Foreign Wars, some of which served in the Korean War.
