Traktor, Caterpillar, 3 ton.
This photograph shows how the two halves of a trailer house, delivered individually, are assembled by simply rolling them together on previously prepared foundations which consist of a few posts driven into the ground connected by planks upon which the house halves roll by means of small wooden wheels. Each half is light enough to be towed behind a 3/4 ton truck or passenger car. They come fully equipped with all essential furniture and equipment, either built-in or stored inside during transport. They are connected to each other by a few bolts, while the roof sections meet in ridges over which a common cap is laid. The whole operation may take between one and three hours, including connection to previously prepared utilities. The section or halves measure 26' x 7'9," thus permitting highway transportation without special permits. Any number of sections can be combined. Two- and three-bedroom houses. Recreation buildings, bath houses, and even very large barracks, have been constructed by TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority) on the same general plans but using more sections

Tank manufacture (Chrysler). These are miscellaneous stampings for M-3's the twenty-eight ton tanks being produced at the huge Chrysler tank arsenal in Detroit. The pile includes ammunition racks, tool boxes and instrument panels
Chrysler tank arsenal. The M-3 tank has an overall length of 18 feet, which means the track for one-side of this 28- ton monster is about 40 feet long. Each individual tread is made of solid rubber
Steel alloy manufacture. Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation, Brackenridge, Pennsylvania. Converting scrap iron and steel into high quality alloy steel. A workman adds alloying materials to the bath of molten steel in one of the thirty-five ton electric arc furnaces. These furnaces give faster heating and more accurate temperature control than do open hearth furnaces
Tank manufacture (Chrysler). A large portion of the 10,000 skilled workers turning out twenty-eight ton M-3 tanks at the huge Chrysler tank arsenal in Detroit have spent years in the employ of the Chrysler company. They have learned the precision methods needed for automobile production, and their past experience is invaluable for work on the tanks which will make our new Army the equal of any in the world in mechanized power. This worker is turning and facing a cupola ring
Chrysler tank arsenal. This is a milling operation. The four-pound metal piece with the aperture is actually the turret for a 37 mm anti-aircraft gun, part of the equipment for an M-3 tank. Extreme accuracy is required in the milling of these parts, because it is important that they be able to move freely. The gun is designed for straight away shooting, as well as serial shooting. The twenty-eight ton M-3 tanks are made in Detroit, at the huge Chrysler tank arsenal
Chrysler tank arsenal. Headed for the oven, this rack of herringbone gears has been completed and is now awaiting the hear treatment which will harden the gears for use in the M-3 tank. Dozens of different types of gear arrangements are used in these twenty-eight ton monsters
Chrysler tank arsenal. Off for a trial run. Each completed M-3 tank gets a seventy-five mile test run over all sorts of rough terrain. The proving ground adjoins the huge Chrysler tank arsenal near Detroit where these twenty-eight ton behemoths are produced
Tank manufacture (Chrysler). Thousands of rivets are used in the production of one of the huge thirty-eight ton M-3 tanks. Whenever possible rivets are replaced by welded sections, but much of the steel plate, such as the hull front plate on which these men are working, is too heavy for welding. These skilled workers are preparing the plate for riveting at the huge Chrysler tank arsenal, in Detroit
Steel alloy manufacture. America builds for its Arsenals of Democracy. Workers ramming in the bottom of a new thirty-five ton electric melting furnace which two days later was placed in operation to produce steel alloys from scrap iron and steel. This plant is being expanded at record speed to keep up with the even increasing needs of the national defense production program. Allegheny Ludlum, Brackenridge, Pennsylvania
Steel manufacture, Allegheny-Ludlum. White-hot steel pours like water from a thirty-five ton electric furnace. The finest quality steels and alloys are produced in these furnaces, which allow much greater control of temperature than other conversion furnaces. The proportion of electric furnace steel is rising steadily, even though this process is the most expensive. The furnace is tiled for the pourings. The flying sparks indicate the fluidity of the steel
Tank manufacture (Chrysler). Stockpiles such as these need constant replenishment now that M-3 tanks have reached a mass production schedule. These are wheel suspension lever forgings, stored outside the huge Chrysler tank arsenal in Detroit where 10,000 workers are turning out twenty-eight ton rolling arsenals for the Army
Chrysler tank arsenal. Testing is through at the proving grounds adjoining the Chrysler tank arsenal, near Detroit. This is one of the twenty-eight ton M-3 tanks, the steel monsters which will make our mechanized forces the equal of any in the world in tank warfare. The lower of the two barrels is that of a 75 mm warfare gun, the upper of a 47 mm. anti-aircraft gun, both standard equipment on these tanks. In addition, four machine guns are mounted on each M-3
Tank manufacture (Chrysler). A huge canvas is used to protect the Chrysler M-3 tanks enroute to various Army posts, or to ports for shipment overseas. These twenty-eight ton land battleships are about to leave the huge Chrysler tank arsenal in Detroit
Tank manufacture (Chrysler). The carburator is installed before this 400 horsepower Wright Whirlwind engine is placed in one of the Army's huge M-3 tanks. This mechanic is employed at the Chrysler tank arsenal, on the outskirts of Detroit, where these twenty-eight ton tanks are being made
Tank manufacture (Chrysler). Every one of the 10,000 workers at the huge Chrysler tank arsenal in Detroit must know his job perfectly in order that there is no time lost as these twenty-eight ton M-3 tanks move on down the assembly line.
