KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. - A wreath and other floral arrangements rest beneath the Astronaut Memorial Mirror at the KSC Visitor Complex following a memorial service held for the crew of Columbia on the anniversary of the tragic accident that took their lives Feb. 1, 2003. The black granite mirror honors astronauts, whose names are carved in the surface, who have given their lives for space exploration.  The service included comments by Center Director Jim Kennedy, Deputy Director Woodrow Whitlow Jr., Executive Director of Florida Space Authority Winston Scott, and Dr. Stephen Feldman, president of the Astronaut Memorial Foundation, who placed the wreath at the mirror.

The occasion is the kickoff of the NASA Explorer School program at the school. KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. --  The U.S. Air Force Thunderbird F-16D pilot, Maj. Tad Clark, has arrived at the Kennedy Space Center Shuttle Landing Facility to announce to waiting media that Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex will host the inaugural World Space Expo from Nov. 3 to 11.  The Expo, which will feature an aerial salute by the Thunderbirds on its opening weekend, will create one of the largest displays of space artifacts, hardware and personalities ever assembled in one location with the objective to inspire, educate and engage the public by highlighting the achievements and benefits of space exploration. JOHNSON SPACE CENTER, Houston -- STS118-S-001 -- The STS-118 patch represents Space Shuttle Endeavour on its mission to help complete the assembly of the International Space Station and symbolizes the pursuit of knowledge through space exploration. The flight will accomplish its ISS 13A.1 assembly tasks through a series of spacewalks, robotic operations, logistics transfers and the exchange of one of the three long-duration expedition crew members. On the patch, the top of the gold astronaut symbol overlays the starboard S-5 truss segment, highlighting its installation during the mission. The flame of knowledge represents the importance of education, and honors teachers and students everywhere.
