The Virginia K. Johnson Home. (A House of Refuge for Unmarried Mothers under twenty-one years old.) A large proportion of the girls here came from the farms, their lives stunted by the monotonous work of cotton picking, many of them beginning at five and six years old. Surely this must be counted one of the by-products of such deadening work. See Hine report on Texas Child Labor. Location: Dallas, Texas.

Hitler's helpmates. Adolf has only the most complimentary things to say about Mrs. Miranda Glucose. She has simply captivated him with her Axis-crable behavior. When the possibility of sugar rationing was first mentioned, this far-sighted lady bought up enough sugar to feed twenty-five American families for the next six years. And now that the rationing order has been put into effect, she is deliberately breaking the law by not telling the government about the secret stores. Happy diabetes, Miranda

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. – The Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution, or MAVEN, mission is being prepared for its scheduled launch on Nov 18, 2013 from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla. atop a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket. Positioned in an orbit above the Red Planet, MAVEN will study the upper atmosphere of Mars in unprecedented detail. It will arrive at Mars in fall 2014. After a five-week transition period during which it will get into its final orbit, deploy booms, and check out the science instruments, MAVEN will carry out its one-Earth-year primary mission. MAVEN will have enough fuel to survive for another six years and will act as a data relay for spacecraft on the surface, as well as continue to take important science data. MAVEN's principal investigator is based at the University of Colorado, Boulder's Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics CU/LASP. The university provided science instruments and leads science operations, as well as education and public outreach, for the mission. NASA Goddard Space Flight Center NASA GSFC, Greenbelt, Md. manages the project and provided two of the science instruments for the mission. The University of California at Berkeley's Space Sciences Laboratory UCB/SSL provided science instruments for the mission. Lockheed Martin LM built the spacecraft and is responsible for mission operations. NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory NASA JPL in Pasadena, Calif., provides navigation support, Deep Space Network support, and Electra telecommunications relay hardware and operations. The Wealth of Montenegro. Montenegro's wealth is reckoned by livestock not by money. Money today in the Balkans is relatively worthless. The sturdy peasantry has gone back to ancient days merchandising, trading sheep for a suit of clothes or a goat for a sack of flour. This picture was taken on the "wealthiest" farm, owned by a Montenegrin who spent six years working in the Colorado mines. When American Red Cross workers sent through the district distributing relief supplies he was one of the few who offered aid instead of asking for it. Incidentally he had a Red Cross memebership card. His little flock was saved from the enemy during the war on account of the inaccessible location of the owner's home, which is in a remote mountain valley, a natural fortress
