American Red Cross - Groups - American Red Cross Mission due in Rumania, Sept. 22, 1917. Carrying $200,000 worth of supplies, urgently needed, the American Red Cross Mission arrived in Rumania, Sept. 22, 1917. It had left Petrograd on Sept. 18, on the last stage of its journey to Jassy, capital of Rumania. The $200,000 worth of supplies were designed to meet the immediate needs of the people of Rumania. Reports in Petrograd stated that conditions there were terrible, and that pending the arrival of the American Red Cross Mission wounds were being dressed with sawdust for lack of better surgical dressings. The Mission to Rumania was headed by H.W. Anderson, of Richmond. Photo shows the executive staff, physicians and nurses

Manpower. Americans all. Their common hatred of fascism bridges the gulf in ancestory of these two Americans, one of Irish descent, the other born in Rumania. Working together with one urgent goal uppermost in mind - victory for the United Nations. J.Powers (left) and J.M. Deli are processing parts for America's medium tanks in a Midwest tank plant. Manpower. Americans all. Born in Rumania, George Sackwar is doing what he can to shoot up the Axis - not with a gun but with the radial drill on which he makes parts for medium tanks. One of many hundreds of loyal, foreign-born Americans who work in this large Midwest tank plant, Sackwar is proud of his role in the war. "Maybe I'm too old to fight," he says, "but I'm giving our soldiers something to fight with." Pressed Steel Can Company, Chicago, Illinois
