New Chief of U.S. Secret Service. Washington, D.C., Dec. 31. Frank L. Wilson was named Chief of the United States Secret Service today by Secretary of Treasury Morgenthau. He succeeds William H. Moran, who retires after 54 years in the service, the last 19 as Chief. Wilson was "Ace" of the Intelligence Unit of the Bureau of Internal Revenue until his appointment as Acting Assistant Chief of the Secrect Service last Sept. 8. Wilson was born in Buffalo, N.Y. May 19, 1886, and received his education in that city
Fort Knox, Kentucky. Every record of the classification section of the Armored Force Replacement Training Center tumbled when Private Preston G. Redd, of 4829-Fourth Avenue, Los Angeles, scored 159 on the general intelligence test out of the yet unattained 160 maximum possible. He also scored 141 in mechanical aptitude, 125 in radio aptitude, and 165 in clerical aptitude. He is approaching his 19th birthday, and when inducted was a pre-medical student. Wilson of the Intelligence Unit of the Internal Revenue Bureau will become acting assistant chief of the secret service, succeeding Joseph E. Murphy, was recently demoted because of alleged spying activities on Federal Bureau of investigation agents. Murphy will act as Acting Chief of secret service in the absence of William H. Horan who is on vacation

Germans are insulting American intelligence, Czech Minister tells members of press club. Washington, D.C., March 29. A guest of honor at a luncheon of the National Press Club today, Col. Vladimir S. Hurban, Czechoslovak Minister who refused to surrender his legation after Germany took over his country, told members that Germans are insulting American Intelligence by disseminating "insidious' statements in this country. Discussing his statues, he said he represents in this country "the Czech-Slovak Republic as it was recognized by the United States and other principal countries even before the Treaty of Versailles." 3-29-39
