Smithsonian exhibits model of new cultural center for Samoan Islanders. Washington, D.C., Nov. 15. Down in the Island of American Samoa the natives quite firmly believe that no white man can master their architecture and manner of construction without glue, pegs, or nails. Lt. Comdr. P.J. Halloran, U.S.N. assigned to the island, set about studying their methods of construction by tying all members of the building together with grass rope, and became so thoroughly familiar with it that he supervised construction of a native library for the islanders. Since way back, construction of buildings has been done in Samoa by members of a guild known as Agaiotupu, and so well did Comdr. Halloran learn the business that he was made a member of the Guild. Here is Iris Lou Sinnett, Secretary in the Office of the National Collection of Fine Arts admiring a model of the 84 foot building which has been placed on exhibition at the Smithsonian Institution here
America's lost link found. Washington, D.C., Oct. 14. Dr. Julian H. While holding a section of the skeleton, Dr. Steward told reporters that the cave was first occupied soon after it became habitable 10,000 to 20,000 years ago

American Red Cross - Classes in Red Cross Work - England - Making splints for wounded soldiers. Corner of the Plastic room of the Surgical Appliances association in Mulberry Walk, Chelsea, where papier mache splints are made. Each splint is designed to fit the particular limb for which it is intended. A plaster cast is taken at the hospital of the injured limb (a cast of a badly deformed limb is seen in the background) and the splint is modelled on the cast in paier mache, which by the invention of one of the American women connected with the institution, has been rendered antiseptic and waterproof. The splints are cheap, durable, light, and very comfortable. All the surgical splints and similar apparatus for American soldiers in England have been made in London by this organization. It is supported by the American Red Cross
