Disease makes ghost town of boy scout camp. Presidential order delaying the Boy Scout Jamboree for a year because of infantile paralysis in Virginia made a ghost town of the city of tents before the camp came properly to life. Nearly $300,000 was spent on construction of the camp. The Jamboree is expected to be held here a year hence. Photo made from Goodyear Airship Enterprise. 8/9/35

Declares at Civil Liberties Committee. Washington, D.C., March 17. Paul S. Litchfield, President of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, told the Lafollette Civil Liberties Committee today that while his firm recognized "outside unions" it kept an elaborate "company union" which is known as the "the industrial assembly", and it comprises an assembly and Senate, much as the state legislature. Acting in a capacity similar to a state Governor, the manager has power to disapprove assembly actions, he added
Discharged for union activites. Washington, D.C., March 18. Miss Zella Morgan, of Gadsen, Ala., told the Lafollette Civil Liberties Committee today how she was discharged from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company's plant in Gadsen. Ala., because she was active in the local union, she was given an "honorable discharge" and two weeks extra pay, she said. Because four other girls in the plant not in her Department, declared they would not work in the organization with her

Formerly an aircraft dock, this huge building -- thought to be the largest in the world with no interior supports -- is now the scene of many busy shops turning out aircraft sub-assembly parts, Goodyear Aircraft Corp., Akron, Ohio. Either new housing close to the plant or vastly improved public transportation will eventually have to be supplied, for the tires on the cars of the workers, and perhaps even the cars themselves, will in many instances give in before the end of the present emergency

Subcontracting aircraft parts. War production is in large measure a story of conversion, a story of using at once facilities already available while newer facilities are being readied. Formerly an airship dock, this huge building--thought to be the largest in the world with no interior supports--is now the scene of many busy shops turning out aircraft sub-assembly parts. Either new housing close to the plant or vastly improved public transportation will eventually have to be supplied, for the tires on the cars of the workers, and perhaps even the cars themselves, will in many instances give in before the end of the present emergency. Flotation bag manufacturing. Spherical flotation bag used in a famous American bombing plane for protection in event of crash landing at sea. Bags are carried, deflated, in wings and fuselage and may be inflated almost instantly with compressed air contained in cylinders. Goodyear, Akron, Ohio
Subcontracting aircraft parts. Here is one of the airplane sub-assembly production lines at an Ohio plant, which was a former airship dock. These are control surfaces for military aircraft, being assembled here for shipment to plane plants. Goodyear, Akron, Ohio
Aircraft tire manufacture. Wide range of tire sizes required for military aircraft is illustrated by this photograph. Tire at bottom is of type used on average medium bomber while small tires at top are for tail wheels of various types. Goodyear, Akron, Ohio
Giant tire manufacturing. Construction of modern airports and other military facilities which requires moving large quantities of earth necessitates equipment identified as earth movers. Earth movers use huge rubber tires like these, some of which cost as much as $2,500 each. Goodyear, Akron, Ohio

Aircraft lifeboat manufacture. Inflatable seven-man boat for use with Uncle Sam's military aircraft is held aloft by women workers.
