Decorated for gallantry in action. Private Bukaro Frafra, Gold Coast Regiment, Royal West African Frontier Force, who has been awarded the Imperial Distinguished Conduct Medal for gallantry in the East African campaign. In April, 1941, as a member of a patrol sent out to find its way over a ravine and across a tank trap, he work his Bren gun forward to within fifty yards of the tank trap, inflicting seven casualties on an enemy party working beyond it. On April 1941, under very heavy fire, he was wounded but refused to give in. He stuck to his gun until it was knocked out of action and he was wounded a second time. He is one of the first three African soldiers to receive the Imperial Distinguished Conduct Medal

After the arrival, the ships crew will prepare for their commissioning ceremony on September 18th. The ship is named in honor of Rear Admiral (RADM) (upper half) Gordon Paie'a Chung-Hoon, born and raised in Hawaii (HI) and awarded the Navy Cross and Silver Star for gallantry as Commanding Officer (CO) of USN Fletcher Class Destroyer USS SIGSBEE (DD 502) during the Battle of Okinawa. Colonel Richard O. "Pat" Patten served on active duty for over 30 years in the Navy, Army and Air Force. He received his bombardier's wings and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Army Air Force at Roswell AFB, New Mexico, in April 1942. He flew 50 missions from Foggia, Italy as a B-17 bombardier in the 353rd Bomb Squadron 301st Bomb Group, Fifteenth Air Force. Colonel Patten was awarded the Silver Star for Gallantry in action on 10 June 1944 during a mission in which his aircraft was damaged and Colonel Patten was severely wounded. On 23 April 1996, he was belatedly awarded a Purple Heart in recognition of wounds received on that mission

Decorated for gallantry in East African campaign. Private Seidu Issalia, Gold Coast Regiment, Royal West African Frontier Force, has received the military medal for bravery in the East African campaign. On January 4, 1941, while acting as runner to his platoon commander, he was shot through the groin while taking a message to command headquarters. Despite his wounds, he crawled on and delivered the message and then crawled back to his platoon commander to inform him that his mission had been accomplished. He was granted an immediate award for conspicuous act of gallantry
