Women in industry. Aircraft motor workers. Youthful Paderewskis, take note! Her finger made superbly flexible by years of piano practice, this young employee of a Midwest aircraft motor plant finds her musical training of great assistance in her war job. The operation of this drill press demands constant, rapid hand and wrist movement--and that's where those hours of do-re-mi are paying dividends. She's countersinking six holes in a bolt, an operation requiring great precision, speed and skill

The "water company" was formed by the people in abandoned mining town of Jere, West Virginia, after the coal company cut off all public services because they were abandoning the mine. The coal company used to charge one dollar and twenty-cove cents per month for water. The present "people's" water company charges its members twenty-five cents per month and makes money at that even when everyone can't pay dues. There are dividends of flour, sugar, lard, etc. The lock is necessary to keep people from other camps from stealing the water, which is very scarce. It's still necessary to change the lock about every four months

Former Cleveland Mayor argues against proposed rail wage cut. Washington, D.C., Oct. 17. Roy T. Miller, former Mayor of Cleveland, today argues against the proposed rail wage cut for the brotherhood of locomotive engineers before the President's fact finding board. He declared that the only argument offered by the railroad Presidents in support of their demand for the cut was "it's the wise thing to do" and "at no time did any of them say it was the just thing to do". He criticized sharply the dividends the Railroads declared in 1931, 1932, and 1933, 10/17/38

Insurance magnate tells of $100,000,000 dividends to stockholders. Washington, D.C., Feb. 7. Frederick H. Eckner, Chairman of the Board of Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., told the Monopoly Study Committee that the past ten years' average annual dividends represented $100,000,000. He said that he wanted to remove the impression that $20,900,000,000 excess of income over expenditures of 308 reserve life insurance companies between 1918 and 1937 represented profit, 2-7-39

V explains 'Brandeis System' of insurance to Monopoly Committee. Washington, D.C., June 15. Judd Dewey, Deputy Commissioner of Savings Bank Life Insurance in Massachusetts, today reviewed the achievements of the life insurance system inaugurated by the late former Supreme Court Associate Justice Brandeis in his state. He showed that the 'Brandeis System,' while paying higher annual dividends, charges lower premiums, costs a great deal less to operate, made a higher rate in earnings on investments, and maintained a higher ratio of surplus to reserves than the other companies. Only one company in the state paid higher dividends over the last ten years, he said, and that company paid only 89 cents more for the entire period

One year of reciprocal aid. British sailors and U.S. Rangers share a joke as well as ships. More than thirty troops, transports of the British Merchant Navy, were in the first convoy that swept through the Mediterranean in the invasion of North Africa, in company with American forces under escort of the Royal Navy. American aviators flew British Spitfire planes, in a joint action that established the Allied second front. The principle of sharing by the Allies paid tremendous dividends in this action
