She began work as a child in the hosiery mills in Kensington, Philadelphia and worked in the Kensington factories until 22 years old when she became an organizer for the Congressional Union. Since that time she has been one of the most powerful speakers in the work for the national suffrage amendment, making a very effective appeal because of her intimate acquaintance with the hardships involved in the life of the wage earning woman.
