This is the type of aircraft that Lieutenant (LT) Eugene Hoy Barksdale, namesake of Barksdale AFB, flew on Aug 11, 1926 over McCook Field, Dayton Ohio (OH) testing the airplane for spin characteristics, and attempted to bailout when he could not recover from a flat spin.
