Airplanes - Types - De Haviland 10 or Airco 10 to be used on the London-Paris, Ritz to Ritz Air Service, London to Paris in two hours. First photograph permitted to be published. Earlier types of this machine carried out all the daylight bombing of the German towns. The De Haviland 10 flies at the high speed of 128 miles an hour, carrying a ton and a half, and loops the loop, an extraordinary feat for a machine of this size. Central News Photo Service

At the drop of a handkerchief by Major General Menoher, U.S.A., Chief of the Air Service, the U.S. entries "hops off" from Mineola, L.I., while simultaneously the Canadian contestants took the air at the signal from the Prince of Wales. The distance to be covered is a round trip, the contestants returning to the original starting point, a distance of 1042 miles. Camouflage - Miscellaneous - Shows the gun emplacement from the rear; one of the ammunition racks is at the side of the piece. The amount of water in the emplacement shows the need of issuing pumps to batteries dug in below the normal water level. The burlap covering the square black shadow at the rear of the piece is obviously not sufficient, and a good enemy air service should have detected the battery on this weakness
