Like nomads settling in for a stay this is the largest tent refugee camp on the Presidio Reservation. United States Army General Hospital is in the background. On April 18, 1906 at 5:15 AM a quake of 8.25 on the Richter scale hit San Francisco. Greater destruction came from the fires afterwards. The city burned for three days. The combination destroyed 490 city blocks and 25,000 buildings, leaving 250,000 homeless and killing between 450 and 700. Estimated damages, over $350 million

Production. Veneer for aircraft and other war essentials. Veneer for combat planes. In the "half-round method," a half log, after being heated in water to the proper temperature, is bolted on a stay log and revolved against a stationary knife. The sheets, as they fall from the knife, are stacked in proper sequence just as they were in the log. Louisville, Kentucky

Clinton, Iowa. Rear brakeman Clarence Averill (right) goes over to the bowling alley in the evening with friends. Left to right: Lester Stein, a passenger brakeman on a streamliner; Jim Cross, a freight brakeman; and Miss Lucille Disher, who runs the boarding house where they all stay when in Clinton. The other woman is the proprietress of the bowling alley. That night was ladies night, so there was no bowling for the men. Instead, they had beer and talked
