The weapon systems officer of an F-15E Eagle aircraft is handed his flight bag by a ground crewman as the aircraft's pilot waits to climb aboard prior to a flight during Operation Desert Shield

A flight bag and jacket wait to be loaded aboard an E-3 Sentry Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft. The aircraft is being prepared for a mission over Turkey in support of the operation. The operation is a security mission to enforce the United Nations no-fly zone north of the 36 degree parallel from Iraqi air and ground incursion. A four nation coalition of US, Turkey, Great Britain and France has been actively protecting and supplying Kurdish refugees since Desert Storm in 1991.(Exact date unknown)
