ALBANY TO LAKE GEORGE—(via Troy) Troy (Rensselaer) stands at the head of steam navigation, andis noted for its manufacturing interests. Her collars encirclethe earth. her rails gird it. Climb the Broadway Approach andview the city, inspect the Polytechnic Institute, ascend Mt. Ida. The Glens Falls car passes by the great collar-and-cuff fac-tories, and along the river bank to Waterford, traditionally thehighest point reached in 1610 by Hendrick Hudson in the HalfMoon. Here we begin the actual journey into the valleysstoried past, toward the romance and beauty of the Lakes. Be-yond the town we run with canal to left and on the right theHudson, flowing between rocky banks crowned with pine. Thehills retreat and we journey through a pleasant pastoral countryof cornfields and apple-orchards, gray barns and red roofs. The Iinelson River I alley 139
