Music by Peter Iljitch Tschaikowsky. Firstproduced at St. Petersburg, 1879, following a performance by the students of the MoscowConservatory in March, 1879. First Berlin performance at the Victoria Theatre, 1888, andten years later at the Theatre des Westens; in Hamburg, 1892. First London production in1892; revived at Covent Garden in 1906 with Emmy Destinn as Tatiana. The work hasfigured frequently in the repertory of continental opera houses, but has had no adequateproduction on the opera stage in America. In 1914 J. M.
