Exercise Little Bear in Alaska (1959-60) was a large-scale Cold War-era military winter exercise organized initially as a free maneuver. In the middle of the problem partial control was exercised to test commanders reaction to uneffected situations. The U.S. Force was represented by the 1st Battle Group, 12th Infantry (reinforced), 4th Infantry Division, Fort Lewis,
Washington, and the Aggressor Force was represented by the 1st Battle Group, 9th Infantry (reinforced), Yukon Command, USARAL (U.S. Army Alaska).
