The Honolulu Museum of Art (HoMA) is an art museum in Honolulu, Hawaii, with a collection of over 50,000 works of art. It is the largest and oldest art museum in Hawaii, and one of the largest in the Pacific region.

History

The museum was founded in 1922 by Anna Rice Cooke, the wife of Charles Montague Cooke, a prominent businessman in Hawaii. The museum's original collection was housed in the Cooke family's home, the Iolani Palace. In 1927, the museum moved to its current location in the Honolulu Academy of Arts building.

Collections

The museum's collection includes works of art from around the world, including:

  • Asian art: The museum has a significant collection of Asian art, including Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Indian paintings, sculptures, and ceramics.
  • European art: The museum's European art collection includes works by European masters such as Rembrandt, Van Gogh, and Picasso.

Location and Hours

The Honolulu Museum of Art is located at 900 S Beretania St, Honolulu, HI 96813. The museum is open Tuesday-Sunday from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm. Admission is $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and students, and free for children under 6.
