Location and History

Fort McCoy is a United States Army installation located in west-central Wisconsin, approximately 40 miles east of Eau Claire and 120 miles northwest of Milwaukee. Established in 1909, it was originally named Camp McCoy in honor of General Robert McCoy, a Civil War veteran and Medal of Honor recipient.

Mission and Activities

Fort McCoy's primary mission is to provide training and support for military personnel, primarily Army Reserve and National Guard units. It also serves as a mobilization and deployment platform for active-duty forces. The installation offers a variety of training facilities and ranges, including live-fire ranges, maneuver areas, and a mock urban training village.

Size and Population
