Summary

Significance: The scenic drive is an early example of the cooperative agreement between the National Park Service and Bureau of Public Roads (then part of the Department of Agriculture) to build quality automotive roads within the national parks. Extant features of West Rim Drive representative of these early efforts include pullouts, parking areas, and road spurs which offer scenic views; easy road grades; and minimal landscape headwalls and retaining walls.
