Summary

Photographic survey of the Ural Mountains industrial area circumscribed by Perm, Ufa, Cheliabinsk, and Verkhoture. Images document industrial facilities including mines (gold, copper, iron, and clay), factories, mills, cities, towns, villages, and labor housing settlements--as well as mountains, cliffs, rock formations, rivers, and a variety of flora. Images also document religious facilities (monasteries, cathedrals, churches, mosques) and religious articles (iconostases, icons, sepulchres) in the area, as well as railroads, railroad bridges, railroad construction and excavation, and railroad stations. Dams, observatories, and monuments are also documented. Occasional images of historic sites, museum specimens and objects are included, and a number of images document taxidermized animals in a private collection. Portraits show industrial and agricultural laborers, peasants, and Baskirs.

Hand-written Russian captions accompany most prints.
