Vernon House, 46 Clarke Street, Newport, Newport County, RI
Summary
Significance: The Vernon House has been designated a Registered National Historic Landmark based upon its significance as an outstanding example of 18th-century architecture. The house in its present form, as enlarged about 1760, has been attributed to Peter Harrison. In its northwest parlor it preserves a unique example of early 18th-century mural decoration.
