Summary
THE HEXAGONAL FRAME AND THE MAGNET STEEL OF THE TIME PROJECTION CHAMBER (TPC) AFTER INITIAL ASSEMBLY.
THE POSITRON-ELECTRON PROJECT (PEP) IS A JOINT UNDERTAKING OF STANFORD LINEAR ACCELERATOR CENTER (SLAC) AND THE LAWRENCE BERKELEY LABORATORY (LBL). THE PEP MACHINE IS DESIGNED TO STORE BEAMS OF ELECTRONS AND POSITRONS CIRCULATING IN OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS AT SINGLE-BEAM ENERGIES BETWEEN 4 GEV AND 18 GEV. THE SOURCE OF THE BEAMS WILL BE THE PRESENT SLAC ACCELERATOR. THE COUNTER-ROTATING BEAMS OF ELECTRONS AND POSITRONS WILL COLLIDE WITH EACH OTHER AT SIX POINTS IN THE MACHINE. THESE COLLISION OR BEAM-INTERACTION POINTS WILL BE USED FOR HIGH-ENERGY PHYSICS EXPERIMENTS.
