description

Summary

Significance: The structure is architecturally significant, not only because of its monumental size, but also because of the unusual foundation system on which it rests. This system was quite common in the mid-nineteenth century in New Orleans. Notable also is the main business room, the Marble Hall, regarded as one of the finest Greek Revival interiors in America. Several important architects of the time were connected with its construction.
