United States Air Force and Belgium Army medical staff work on a Angolan patient injured in the crash of his AN-24 transport on take-off from the Brazzaville, Congo airport. The patient was taken from the crash site at the end of the runway to the medical facility located in a Congolese hangar near the middle of the runway which was in place in support of PHOENIX GAUNTLET. PHOENIX GAUNTLET deployed enabling forces as part of contingency planning to prepare for a possible evacuation of Americans from Zaire, gripped in a civil war
