Summary

Photo shows two well-dressed and well- fed gentlemen posing for Uriah Hunt Painter on the White House lawn during the Easter Egg Roll April 22, 1889. After comparing this familiar picture to portraits of Painter, librarians concluded that Painter is not one of the men depicted. However, the man on the left holds a Kodak similar to the model used by Painter. Noted the following day's Evening Star, ''the amateur photographer was almost as numerous as the egg crop which was sacrificed to make an Easter holiday ..." (Source: Ison, Painter article, 1990)
