Twenty-one C-130Es from the 43rd Airlift Wing from Pope Air Force Base, North Carolina, line the taxiway at Camp Mackall Air Field, south of Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Almost 1,000 personnel deployed with the aircraft and set up a tent city beside the strip to test the bare base operating capabilities of the Wing. The tents are erected in close proximity to the aircraft both for logistical and security reasons. Flight crews and maintenance personnel can walk to the aircraft, and the same forces can guard the entire encampment. Special Forces units from Fort Bragg performed enemy attack and perimeter probe exercises throughout the deployment for Exercise GRYPHON WARRIOR 99-01
