Thomas Macy House, 99 Main Street, Nantucket, Nantucket County, MA
Summary
Significance: The 1770 residence of Valentine Swain was constructed as a typical four bay house. During the prosperity of the whaling days, Thomas Macy acquired the property and had the house enlarged and embellished with Federal ornamentation. The story of Macy's successful career became tangible when in 1831, he recorded his house plans in the town book of deeds as the "Thomas Macy Homestead."
