Their Last Hope - Political cartoon, public domain image

This illustration entitled "Their Last Hope", by cartoonist Clifford Berryman, which appeared in the Washington Post on July 27, 1899, shows Filipino independence movement leader Emilio Aguinaldo shaking hands with the party leader at the National Democratic Convention in 1899. Here, he is depicted as a savage to undermine any claims of legitimacy by the independence movement.
