The Syrian Democratic Forces Engineer Support Unit

description

Summary

The Syrian Democratic Forces Engineer Support Unit uses a track hoe excavator to lift steel bridge bays into place on the unit’s first roadway bridge in Jarniyah, Syria, July 15, 2018. The recently graduated 20-person platoon’s mission is to rebuild bridges in Syria that were destroyed prior to liberation. The SDF ESU is the first of six future engineer units that will each focus on different aspects of rebuilding and stabilizing critical infrastructure. Prior to graduating, the SDF Engineers worked alongside Coalition partners to complete a practical bridging exercise before taking the lead in the two-day rebuild of the Kharbet Al Shafrat Bridge.
