The Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron is a private sailing club which was formed in 1862. This image depicts the foreshore parkland area. In the background, a whale's jawbones are visible and form an archway. The jawbones originally came from a whaling station at Twofold Bay, on the south coast of New South Wales. The flagpole was salvaged from the collier BELLAMBI...This photo is part of the Australian National Maritime Museum’s Samuel J. Hood Studio collection. Sam Hood (1872-1953) was a Sydney photographer with a passion for ships. His 60-year career spanned the romantic age of sail and two world wars.
