The Reverse Osmosis Water Purification Unit (ROWPU) sits by the shore providing 6000 gallons of fresh water a day to the citizens of Degirmendere, Turkey. Marines from the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) (MEU(SOC)) during Operation AVID RESPONSE (OAR) are helping provide water to victims of the August 17 earthquake here. OAR is the US European Command contribution to relief efforts following the earthquake that struck about 65 miles east of Istanbul near the town of Izmit.
