San Diego, Calif., (May. 21, 2005) The official party for the christening ceremony of United States Naval Ship (USNS), Lewis and Clark (T-AKE 1), pause for a photograph at the National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (NASSCO). The Lewis and Clark is the first of the newest class of underway replenishment ships built for naval service and are named in honor of legendary explorers. The primary mission of Lewis and Clark is to provide combat stores to naval forces at sea. Direct descendents of Capt. Meriwether Lewis, and Capt. William Clark, Mrs. Jane Lewis Sale Henley and Ms. Lisa Clark, were on hand to help celebrate their ancestors namesake.
