The Magnolia Promenade in the late 1940s, Hot Springs Arkansas

description

Summary

Bathhouse Row. A row of evenly-spaced magnolia trees was planted along the east side of Central Avenue, between the road and the main sidewalk. In 1922, the young trees had matured to the point that park service Director Mather called this walkway the Magnolia Promenade. The vegetation, drains, buildings, and small scale features like seating and lighting all contribute to the historic significance of this area of the landscape.
