Carl Heinrich Bloch (1834-1890) was a Danish painter known for his religious and historical paintings. He was born on 23 May 1834 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Bloch was trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and later studied in Italy, where he was influenced by Renaissance art. Bloch's work often focused on biblical and historical themes, and he gained recognition for his skilful use of colour, composition and attention to detail. One of his most famous paintings is The Resurrection of Lazarus, which depicts the biblical scene of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead.
